Donor Spotlight: Sayu Ueno of the Mitsui USA Foundation

Established in 1987, The Mitsui U.S.A. Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. (Mitsui USA) for active, social contribution programs in communities where the company does business. Currently, it supports more than 50 initiatives across the U.S. in the areas of education, community welfare, arts & culture, employee matching & volunteerism.

Mr. Ueno is president and CEO of Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. and senior executive managing officer and chief operating officer of the Americas Business Unit of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Mitsui USA’s parent company in Tokyo. A tradition of corporate giving and community involve­ment guides Mitsui & Co. activities worldwide, and Mr. Ueno is active with various business, cultural, and educational or­ganizations in the New York area.  He currently serves on the boards of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of New York, Nippon Club, Japanese Educational Institute of New York, Japan Society, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the New York Philharmonic. He is also on the Advisory Council for the Weissman Center for International Business at Baruch College. A native of Kyoto Prefecture, Mr. Ueno joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 1985 after graduating from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law.
