Executive Director Updates
August 19, 2019
Dear M&F Community:
After seven years leading Midori & Friends, at the end of August, Suzanne Wilson will be stepping down from her position as Executive Director. Although she and her husband Jason will be relocating out West to pursue new professional opportunities, Suzanne will serve as a Senior Advisor to M&F through December.
Under Suzanne’s direction, M&F expanded its reach and impact through significant budget growth and fundraising success, the development of new school partnerships and the creation of innovative programs. Through a comprehensive fundraising strategy, she doubled M&F annual operating budget, now surpassing $2M. Additionally, M&F successfully balanced our artistic and programmatic vision with the financial resources for the past seven years. As part of her strong fiscal management, M&F earned the highly coveted 4-Star rating on Charity Navigator.
Also, during her tenure, school partnerships increased from 34 to a record number of 81 NYC public schools. Suzanne introduced and implemented MusicINC, the strategic initiative to ensure that NYC students have access to sequential, high-quality music instruction throughout their entire education. Since MusicINC’s inception, M&F has built 21 MusicINC collaborative networks, where students are able to continue their musical studies as they move from elementary through high school.
“We are incredibly grateful to Suzanne for everything she accomplished to advance M&F, put us on the map as a preeminent music organization, and position us for our next chapter,” stated Ron Claiborne, Chair of the Board of Directors. “She brought energy, joy, pride and vision to M&F, as well as beautiful music to the students that we serve. From the staff, the artists and our school liaisons, to our partners and Board members, we will all miss Suzanne dearly.”
Upon Suzanne’s departure, the Board of Directors has appointed Greg Pierson, the current Chief Operating Officer as the Interim Executive Director. “Given his proven dedication, stellar track record with M&F and extensive background in arts administration, we are confident that M&F will continue to thrive and further its critical mission during this transition period,” said Mr. Claiborne.
